EHWA to hold facilitated meeting
George Bell, EHWA president
Elk Headwaters Watershed Association will host the first in a new series of facilitated meetings on Tuesday, December 2, at 7 p.m. at the Slaty Fork Community Center. These meetings will support development of the visioning phase of a Comprehensive Watershed Plan. This phase is funded by a Together Green grant offered by The National Audubon Society in alliance with Toyota.
At this first meeting, we will conduct a review of the Basic State of the Watershed report to enable stakeholders to identify issues and concerns within the Elk River headwaters and to identify needs for further data collection. This is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to make a difference in conservation efforts in “your backyard.”
We will ask for individuals to volunteer as representatives of each of the stakeholder groups. The stakeholder groups identified so far are: Timber Industry, Agriculture, Real Estate, Commercial and non-commerical Recreation (Snowshoe and independent operator representatives), Tourism, Resident and Landowners, Pocahontas County Commission, Pocahontas County Public Service District, Conservation groups, State and Federal Agencies. To prepare for this meeting, please familiarize yourself with the Basic State of the Watershed Report which is available at www.ElkHeadwaters.org.
