You Can Help
- Inform yourself. Read this and other websites. Invite your friends to do so.
- Send a contribution. All contributions are applied to Eight Rivers Safe Development, Inc. educational and legal efforts. Our all-volunteer staff receive no pay.
- Sign the Save the Elk River petition.
- Ask for a presentation. Your organization or group can request a speaker, and we'd be delighted to help with that!
Write to Public Officials
Below is the contact information for public officials who are in positions to help improve this project. In writing your letter(s), here are some points to focus on:
- Tell them you want West Virginia State Law enforced.
- Tell them the WVDEP must rescind the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and prepare a comprehensive Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.
- Tell them that an environmental assessment is required for any alternative site. This must include identifying the potential impact to caves, springs, surface streams, groundwater and trout habitat and conducting a risk assessment and alternatives to a regional sewage treatment plant.
- Tell them you want the project to conduct a facilitated rural wastewater planning workshop involving all stakeholders so that a safe and sustainable solution can be developed.
- Tell them you support the efforts of the Elk Headwaters Watershed Association in developing a comprehensive watershed plan for the Upper Elk River and headwaters.
- See the Letters of Support for examples and ideas in writing your letter(s).
