Cavers who love West Virginia caves organized this group.
Eight Rivers Safe Development, Inc. was organized by cavers who value West Virginia caves and karst resources—and do not wish to see them destroyed. Our organization is centered in Pocahontas County because it has some of the most beautiful wild cave and coldwater stream resources in the state. Pocahontas County contains the headwaters of eight significant rivers. We believe it is cheaper, safer, and smarter to prevent contamination upstream than to pay for expensive cleanups downstream. We exist for charitable and educational purposes to encourage conservation and promotion of karst, cave, and karst landscapes. We encourage safe development on karst terrains. Some of our organizers are George Phillips, Bill Liebman, Bob Handley, Carl Pierce, George Deike, Roger Brucker, and Hilary Lambert.
